Radiology is the study, application and review of X-ray and radiation technology to diagnose and treat disease. At JFK Medical Center, our skilled radiologists carefully utilize ultrasound imaging, CT, CAT, nuclear medicine, PET and MRI to evaluate and diagnose an array of health issues.
The Radiology team at JFK Medical Center is dedicated to providing outstanding services to all patients in need of diagnostic imaging. Our services include all aspects of Radiology, such as:
Mammography uses low-dose x-ray imaging to examine breasts (called mammograms). The Women’s Center at JFK Medical Center uses mammography to diagnose and treat breast-tissue anomalies, such as tumors and other breast diseases.
- Diagnostic X-Ray
Diagnostic X-ray uses electromagnetic energy beams to produce images, in an effort to diagnose tumors or injuries to bone. Routine diagnostic X-rays for outpatients are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
- CT Scan
CT scans consist of a series of detailed X-rays to produce a cross-sectional 3D-image of soft-tissue bodily structures inside the body. Our skilled Radiologists have the ability to review CT scans as a whole or individually, in an effort to obtain as much information as possible. Available 24/7 in our facility, CT scans offer extremely accurate results allowing swift diagnosis and treatment.
JFK Medical Center is one of the few facilities in the area that offers 24/7 ultrasound imaging. Non-invasive ultrasound emits high-frequency waves that reflect back as echoes when it reaches solid surfaces. Ultrasound plays a pivotal role in patient screening and vascular disease follow-up.
MRI is used by Radiologists to visualize internal structures that are extremely detailed in nature. Instead of X-rays, a magnetic field is used to produce high-quality images in multiple planes. Patients experience more comfort, as scan times are faster than other forms of imaging.
- Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine uses the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Nuclear Medicine exams include bone scans, gastric emptying times, thyroid scans, hepatobiliary scans, GI bleed studies and cardiac SPECT scanning.
- Interventional Radiology
Interventional radiology is a minimally invasive medical procedure that uses the guidance of imaging technologies, and is often used in place of open surgical procedures. Interventional radiology procedures are typically easier on patients, as they involve less risk, less pain and require shorter recovery times.
