Spine surgery
When more conservative treatment methods are not effective, your doctor may recommend spine surgery. We offer the following procedures:
- Artificial disc replacement surgery — This procedure involves replacing a herniated disc with an artificial disc to provide pain relief without affecting the spine's anatomical structure.
- Cervical and lumbar fusions — These surgeries involve fusing two or more vertebrae together to stabilize the spine and prevent movement that may cause pain.
- Discectomy — This surgery removes herniated disc material that presses on the spinal cord or a nerve.
- Kyphoplasty — This procedure relieves pain caused by compression fractures. Kyphoplasty involves injecting bone cement through a small hole in the skin into a fractured vertebra.
- Laminectomy — Also called open decompression, this procedure is typically performed on the cervical, thoracic or lumbar sections of the spine to alleviate pain. It removes a small vertebra over the nerve root or disc material under the nerve root.
- Spinal stenosis surgery — This procedure is designed to alleviate painful symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis. It is a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting a device into the back of the spine to prevent you from bending too far backward at the narrowed segment.
Minimally invasive spine surgery
Depending on your condition and the type of surgery needed, you may be a candidate for minimally invasive surgery. This type of procedure allows us to operate using small incisions and an endoscope (a long, flexible tube with a camera at the end). Benefits of minimally invasive surgery include a shorter recovery time and less postoperative pain.
